THE ARMORY SHOW PONE EL FOCO EN EL ARTE LATINX Y LATINOAMERICANO
Por primera vez en su historia, The Armory Show pone especial énfasis en el arte Latinx y latinoamericano con la incorporación de tres curadores que han venido dedicando sus prácticas a estas categorías rubricadas por la academia y por el mercado, y que en el caso particular de Estados Unidos han cobrado impulso en los últimos años a través de grandes muestras institucionales.
BUILDING RADICAL SOIL
«Building Radical Soil», exposición organizada por The Latinx Project de la Universidad de Nueva York (NYU) y curada por Sofía Shaula Reeser-del Rio, reúne los trabajos de un grupo de artistas latinxs que analizan temas urgentes como las economías extractivas, el racismo medioambiental y el colonialismo mediante la exploración del conocimiento ancestral, intergeneracional y comunitario.
TWO EXHIBITIONS HIGHLIGHT LATINX ARTISTS’ ABSTRACT APPROACH
Two groundbreaking exhibitions currently on view in New York assert the enduring legacy of abstraction among Latinx artists: “Latinx Abstract” at BRIC, curated by Elizabeth Ferrer, and “XX”, at the Manhattan-based LatchKey Gallery. Both exhibitions emphasize, on the one hand, a desire to push against limitations and stereotypical expectations imposed upon Latinx artists, and on the other, the need to reassess the scope and history of abstract art itself.
