AFTER THE END. CARTOGRAPHIES FOR ANOTHER TIME
Bringing together the works of 40 international artists, this exhibition, curated by Manuel Borja-Villel and presented at the Centre Pompidou-Metz, questions the Western narrative rooted in a colonial system through stories that are at once new and ancestral, popular and modern. Highlighting the importance of community, the exhibition explores the diasporic condition and the limits of modernity’s intelligibility in order to imagine worlds beyond the end of time—and beyond our own time.
JUAN FRANCISCO ELSO: POR AMÉRICA
Mediante el uso de materiales mayoritariamente naturales y orgánicos -como barro, arcilla, paja, ramas, corteza y tierra-, la práctica escultórica de Elso explora las complejas configuraciones de la identidad contemporánea cubana, caribeña y latinoamericana, influenciadas por el peso cultural de las tradiciones indígenas y creencias religiosas afrocaribeñas, así como por los traumas de la opresión colonial.
ARTISTAS LATINOAMERICANOS DESTACADOS EN LA 10° BIENAL DE BERLÍN
La 10ª Bienal de Arte Contemporáneo de Berlín, titulada «We don’t need another hero (No necesitamos otro héroe)», anunció hoy la lista de artistas participantes, entre los que se encuentran varios latinoamericanos, como la chilena Johanna Unzueta, la brasileña Cinthia Marcelle, el colombiano Óscar Murillo y la nicaragüense Patricia Belli.
PRIMERA INDIVIDUAL EN EEUU DE BELKIS AYÓN, UNA ARTISTA PROLÍFICA EN SU CORTA VIDA
El Museo Fowler de la UCLA, en Los Angeles, acoge la primera exposición individual en Estados Unidos dedicada a la obra de la artista visual cubana Belkis Ayón (1967-99), quien durante su breve pero fértil carrera produjo una extraordinaria obra que hoy por hoy tiene un lugar preponderante en la historia del grabado contemporáneo en Cuba.
