El proceso y la experimentación con las cualidades y materiales de la fotografía analógica son centrales en el trabajo de la artista chilena Isabel Martínez, actualmente radicada en Toronto, Canadá. Esta práctica la conduce a ejercicios híbridos y abstracciones, a la creación de imágenes en lugar de tomar fotografías. A través de estos canales, su trabajo se relaciona con lo incierto en medio de lo asumido y con los límites entre la abstracción y la representación.

Su trabajo trata de los aspectos de la experiencia donde lo real, lo conocido y lo imaginado se mezclan. La percepción, un tema recurrente dentro de su práctica, se combina con un interés continuo en las ideas relativas a las nociones de tiempo, espacio, simultaneidad y duración. Las imágenes de Martínez, extrañas y reconocibles a la vez, están informadas en parte por la ciencia, la filosofía y la ficción.
