HELLEN ASCOLI: CIEN TIERRAS
El enfoque multidisciplinario del arte de Hellen Ascoli (Ciudad de Guatemala, 1984) proviene de su compromiso activo con el tejido, el movimiento y la escritura para explorar la relación política entre cuerpo, objeto y entorno. Con el telar de cintura como herramienta central, adherida al cuerpo y a su espacio de trabajo, Ascoli genera ideas y experiencias arraigadas en el entorno, y que son, por lo tanto, contextuales y relacionales.

“Each weave is intimately related to the body it harnesses,” the artist writes. “Its warp is the width of my hips, its length mirrors my height, its designs are spaced by the threads I can hold in my hand… It carries memory through touch, a proximity sense. I choose to use materials that reveal vestiges of bodies that were once there.”
