Rivers Flow Out of my Eyes
In her book «Eruptions of Memory» (2018) the French-Chilean theorist Nelly Richard writes about a ‘completed past’ as opposed to a ‘past being completed’, one which is continually being interpreted in new ways and is thus able to withstand rigid standpoints and apathy in the present. On the basis of this idea «Rivers flow out of my eyes» provides a context for a broad range of reflections on periods of political repression and violence. A merely critical and investigative approach is avoided here. Instead the selected works show an emphatic use of ambiguity, fiction, humor, absurdity and poetic images.

En su libro «Eruptions of Memory», la teórica franco-chilena Nelly Richard escribe sobre un «pasado completo» como lo opuesto a un «pasado que se está completando», uno que continuamente se interpreta de nuevas maneras y por lo tanto es capaz de resistir puntos de vista rígidos y la apatía en el presente. Sobre la base de esta idea, Rivers flow out of my eyes proporciona un contexto para una amplia gama de reflexiones sobre los períodos de represión política y violencia. Aquí se evita un enfoque meramente crítico y de investigación. En cambio, las obras seleccionadas muestran un uso enfático de la ambigüedad, la ficción, el humor, el absurdo y las imágenes poéticas.
