GABRIEL CHAILE: NO HAY NADA QUE DESTRUYA EL CORAZÓN COMO LA POBREZA

This is the artist’s first solo museum presentation in the United States. At BAMPFA, Chaile presents newly commissioned work reflecting on the social concerns of his community. Often made in homage to particular individuals—ancestors, family, and friends—Chaile’s sculptures reflect how social issues of the present connect to long histories of anti-colonial resistance.

GABRIEL CHAILE: ART AND LIFE IN A TIMELESS TIME

His first solo exhibition in New York, at Barro Gallery, is composed of two works from different periods of his own history as an artist. The pieces exhibited at Barro dialogue with the large adobe sculpture conceived for the High Line, Manhattan’s most important outdoor sculpture park.

EDUARDO NAVARRO (BREATHSPACE)

Gasworks presents the first UK solo exhibition by Buenos Aires-based artist Eduardo Navarro. Sitting in a corner of the gallery, the viewer encounters “Self-Doll” (2020), a stuffed humanoid covered in orange fleece. In a time of strict distancing regulations, Self-Doll has become a surrogate for the artist, acting as Navarro’s proxy in the exhibition and for public events. Throughout the exhibition the artist will communicate through the doll at random times, inviting conversations with the audience.

New Museum Presents The First Major New York Solo Museum Exhibition by Mika Rottenberg

Employing absurdist satire to address critical issues of our time, Mika Rottenberg (b. 1976, Buenos Aires, Argentina) creates videos and installations that offer subversive allegories for contemporary life. Her works interweave documentary elements and fiction, and often feature protagonists who work in factory-like settings, manufacturing goods ranging from cultured pearls («NoNoseKnows», 2015) to the millions of brightly colored plastic wholesale items sold in Chinese superstores («Cosmic Generator», 2017). The New Museum presents Rottenberg’s first New York solo museum exhibition, «Easypieces», which premieres a new video installation, «Spaghetti Blockchain» (2019), alongside several of her recent video installations and kinetic sculptures.
